There's maybe 1/3 (made up number) of people who really shouldn't be in the prison system. Focus on getting them out and providing the probation system to help them. Instead of blanket changes which means the 1/3 who absolutely should be in prison get an option of early release.

Years and years of "get tough on crime" from successive Home Secs combined with Austerity from their Chancellors mean the prison service and probation service is overloaded.

- Stop treating Prison as punishment. Switch to protecting society.
- Reduce sentencing guidelines
- Shift more guidelines from custodial to non-custodial
- Apply those retrospectively
- Fund the probation service
- Fund the court system
- Move the now non-custodial crimes to magistrates courts.

The current furore around early release from UK prisons is classic Labour, copying the England football team.

They were so busy thinking about the rewards of the high press, they forgot about the totally open goal behind them. When the opposing team went for the break, they panicked and started running around in every direction just outside their own penalty box.

It's so depressing that even really worthwhile initiatives get hijacked by the incredibly obvious response.

Remember all those patriotic flags on UK lamp posts?

They were always a temporary thing, now they're in tatters. That just created work for the councils to remove them from unauthorised locations. And this is what the council workers now have to deal with.

When the NHS updates their buildings to have aircon instead of just windows that open 10cm, it's a perfect time to do air filtration as well as a infection control mechanism.

> all hospitals and care homes to have air conditioning within the next decade, with all schools to follow by 2050.

Gah! Same with schools, but I guess there's not enough money to do both at once.

Covid Stats. Lots of graphs out there of a huge range of diseases increasing since 2020. But this is a weird one.

Who told you in 2022 that repeat Covid infections would have the biggest impact on elite sports *coaches*?

A 6 year drop in the average age of premier league managers since 2022.

This is the 3yr rolling average - older managers can't keep up the pace any more.

When I was small, I thought the UK & British Isles would be better if it was 1000 miles further south for the Mediterranean climate. And with half the population so there was more space, like France.

We got the Mediterranean climate. Now how do we degrow the population and economy to half it's size? While still increasing the standard of living. And over what timescale?

A modest proposal.

The devolved nations of the United Kingdom have the beginnings of a written codified constitution. That defines how they're governed and the extent of their government. What is local and what is reserved to Westminster.

If Burnham wants a constitution for England. Perhaps England should devolve from the UK and Westminster.

As I get older, everyone around me seems to be going deaf.

Either they're shouting at each other because the general noise level has gone up. Or they completely misunderstand me because they weren't actually listening. As too busy thinking about what they were going to say next when I had finished speaking.
