IMHO, Passport is an existence proof that this is wrong. My take is exactly the opposite. If Microsoft does what they say they will, the open source community will simply ignore them. And the MS identity environment will become Microsoft only. At which point it will only be of interest to people running MS Servers or who can afford to bolt MS servers into their rack for this purpose.
