This is a bit backwards for this forum, but bare with me.

Winamp is closing shop as of Dec 20. The failure and disappearance of yet another desktop music player ought to be seen as a result of the growth of online music players like Google Music. However, there's a LOT of function in things like Winamp and Winamp for Android that is missing in Google Music. I'd like to see Google Music develop into a system that can cope with very large libraries (>20k tracks) and local storage, but I don't see much sign of it at the moment. I'd also like to see it play much better with the music ecosystem of things like last.fm, Discogs and so on.

But most of all, I'd really like to have Winamp's approach of 6 panes. Tree, Artist, Album, Track, Playlist, Currently playing. With it all being mostly text lists. It's the only way I've found that works for navigating very large numbers of tracks.

Of course, Google could just buy Winamp from AOL and keep it going!
