Topic based conversation vs People based
A quick thought that needs deeper analysis. Buzz, Twitter, Facebook wall, Friendfeed are all fundamentally people based conversations. But what about topic based systems like Googlegroups, Yahoogroups, Facebook Groups, Bulletin board sites. These Few-To-Few, communities of practice need re-imagining as well. Maybe this can be built on top of Buzz via search and views but I have my doubts. Now Google does already have properties in this space:-
- Google Chat Groups for real time
- GoogleGroups for more considered discussion
- Google Sites for long-lived group-edited documents
- Google Code for specifically IT based projects
Perhaps these need to be collected together and have some of the new Wave-Buzz-HTML5 technology applied.
One-To-One conversation, and One-To-Few publishing are fundamental human needs. So is Few-To-Few community discussion. But while this happens within the comments stream attached to a specific post or Buzz, the systems for aggregating them into topic areas are missing.
