I'm following too many Americans in Buzz. Can anyone recommend a few Brits (or actually, anyone outside the US)? Not that I'm particularly bored or annoyed by endless discussion of iPads, health care, net neutrality, bleeding heart liberals and weird religious views, I just need some balance.

Love the post @Julian. Balance is good. Too liberal for you? :) Ironic! I wonder what that says about internet demographics... or are liberals just more social. 7 Apr 2010 7 Apr 2010

I can't quite work out which way the sentiments are flowing here. For what it's worth I tend a bit more towards anarcho-syndicalist than anarcho-capitalist. And I'll probably either vote liberal or "none of the above" in the coming UK elections. I guess that makes me considerably left of what Americans would call Liberal. But then we mean very different things by that term over hear. I was really moaning about people complaining of "bleeding heart liberals" than being one or not.

Whatever, Michael has it right. I'm a native English speaker living in a native English speaking bubble that is dominated by American thought. So I'd better get used to it.

@Julian - I am truly joking, though. I'm a big fan of the Isles of the Empire! Especially Question Time - now there's a real political dialogue. (Hated the BBC's version of Day of the Triffids, though - pee-ew.) 7 Apr 2010 7 Apr 2010

I've always found it interesting the reactions most Americans seem to have relative to other English-speaking non-Americans. For instance, prior to getting to know a few, I would have argued that Canadians are "just like us." I can't say much the same for Britons, owing to the accents and variances in the English language constructs. 7 Apr 2010 7 Apr 2010

But joking aside, it's probably a good idea to go for a hunt during your own waking hours to get some brits and/or europeans. Worked for me quite well, yet I fear that the talk ain't that different from the Americans, freakin' globalization ... not much anarcho-syndicalists around no more. 7 Apr 2010 7 Apr 2010

Much obliged, @Julian. I'm definitely into cyberpunk. I'm more of a graphic novel, pulp and horror reader, owing to a lack of time for more thoughtful fare - sigh. If you like cultish kinds of reads, I highly recommend Battle Royale (though the English translation is difficult to follow at times) and World War Z (Max Brooks). 8 Apr 2010 8 Apr 2010

@Micheal Lovecraft - I do...I think I have "Kafka on the Shore" and "Norwegian Wood" but it's possible I loaned them out or the ex has 'em. I'll bring what I have over next time I visit if you're interested in checking them out.

@Julian - totally relate to your frustrations with everything being so US-centric. I'm guilty as anyone but would also love to participate in non-US centric topics.
