Renault
Model unknown, bought in 1975 in New Orleans, drove it a couple of miles, it broke down in the parking lot of my apartment building and never started again.
Datsun B210
Bought it new for about $2500 in 1976. I called it my lawnmower. Ran virtually without maintenence. Drove it between New York, New Orleans, Florida, Madison. Never should have sold it.
Lots of stories to go with this car. Driving back from Florida to Madison on Easter Sunday the key broke off in the ignition in some random town in Indiana. Had to sleep in a church with Pete V and Allison A. Never did get it fixed, they showed me how to start the car by lifting the hood and jamming a screw driver between two points. That's how I started it from then-on.
I remember watching this car drive over the hill and out of sight after I sold it. I wondered if I had done the right thing by selling it. I now know. No way. Great car. It seems everyone has one of these to read other people's car rolls. The car that put up with the most abuse and still treated me like the boss.
Plymouth Voyager
Bought it with hundreds of thousands of miles on it, in Madison. It had been used to shuttle a ski club from Madison to Colorado and back for years. Largest American car ever made. Put a bed in the back and drove it all over the United States. It was called Walter. Drove it from Madison to California, ditched it in Chemeketa Park outside Los Gatos, sold it for a dollar.
BMW 318i
Company car leased for me by Living Videotext. Underpowered piece of shit.
BMW 525
White, super-power car. Drove 125 mph a few times. Real comfortable. Leather seats. Corporate car.
Acura
Reliable middle-class-mobile.
BMW 750IL
German cop car. Corporate jet. Fast. 12-cylinder. Huge back seat.
Mazda Miata
Fun car. It was my second car when I bought it.
Nissan pickup
Gardening car. It was my third car. Two cars too many.
Eventually sold all three cars in the space of a few months.
Lexus RX300
The driving pod. Bought in 1999. Hardly ever drived it. Last car I smoked in. Left California in this car, drove it cross-country a number of times.
Toyota Sienna
My current wheels. Doesn't yet have a name, but have started calling it Kid's Paradise or The Kid Magnet. Ask Patrick Scoble to explain. Kids love this car. I like it too.
