#Cocktail - Sloppy Joe 50ml Light Rum, 20ml Dry Vermouth, 20ml Lime, 10ml Curacao, 5ml Grenadine Friends with the El Presidente, from the same 30s Havana bar of the same name. Also known as The American President, but we won't speak of that. https://thespirits.substack.com/p/the-spirits-190-the-sloppy-joe-cocktail

Capitalism is built on the promise of future growth. It's powered by borrowing from future growth to pay for today.

#Cocktail - Ocean Shore: 30ml Sloe Gin, 30ml Gin, 20ml Lime, 20ml Grenadine, 15ml Egg White (optional) Not unpleasant but a bit weird. And a muddy brown colour like the UK shore line.

One of those questions. How big a trebuchet would you need to give a satellite escape velocity from the moon.

2 weeks to go till the Gorton & Denton by-election. And still no clarity on whether Labour or Green are most likely to beat Reform UK. Is it really a 3 horse race that's up in the air? Labour and Greens fighting each other as much as Reform. Get the Vote Out, especially the youth vote. Vote!

#Cocktail - Queens #3 50ml Gin, 25ml Red Vermouth, 25ml Dry Vermouth, 30ml Pineapple There are lots of these and they all basically taste of pineapple with shaken pineapple froth on top. As it's old we'll put it down to covering the taste of bathtub gin. There's even one called "Invisible Gin" with a bit of ginger in there,

Moto2 testing in Portimao today and tomorrow. No obvious coverage anywhere. Not even PR on x-fka-twitter from the teams. Rained off as well? Live timing: https://livetiming.getraceresults.com/autodromodoalgarve#screen-results Only one bike on circuit.

Then there's the post-festival RonaChondria. Is that sore throat just 3 days of camping in a dusty field and stage smoke or something worse? We'll know in a couple of days. Best T-Shirt. DJ on-stage. Black T with one word in huge white letters "WHAT?". Very Pulp Fiction.

That was my 4th Field Maneuvers. Shall I do one more? Maybe. Scarily, I think this year is 50 years since my first festival. "It's weird being the same age as old people".

The one awkward thing with small festivals that got a bit big is that moment when the entire site wants to get into one stage tent. It gets impossibly hot and airless inside and security have to do one out, one in. So I missed Midland's closing set, but listened to some of it from outside. What dance festival shall I go to next year? looking for UkGarage, Dubby LoFi Deep House and some thing to surprise. Shall Not Fade has probably gone. Farr Festival ended years ago. Houghton maybe?

There was some other music to my taste but not a lot. Afternoon Disco House in the sun was hilarious. Not just because of the lgbtqia+ community in all their finery but also for the Sun afternoon dressing up as the "Salesforce Team Building event from hell" and "Wedding Drunk Uncle". But I can't be doing with Speed Garage or Dad House that's just 4-on-the-floor and nothing else.

Field Maneuvers was exactly as expected! Saturday evening started with some 90s liquid drum and bass with 2025 production values. Samples of "Walking Wounded" deep in the mix. And then Nazar, Cooly G, Ikonika, Kode9, Aya from hyperdub. Mid-oughties seminal dubstep is now "Old Skool", right? Whatever, it was epic. I miss the chillout cafe. Some times you need a Chai, apricot flapjack and chillout music as dawn comes up.
