And then go though all the same bullshit proving who you are so they can remove the blocks. Except the banking group had bought your credit card company. And even though there was no hacking attempt on their system, they also blocked you and now want to issue a new credit card with a new number. So you'll have to go through all the systems holding subscriptions, Amazon and Paypal and remake the links. The hack started with easily available dox data. This modern world, eh? |

Now if they've frozen the account due to a failed hacking attempt to change your credentials, the only option is to visit a branch and present some photo ID, passport and/or driving license. Except they've shut all the branches. When you've driven 20 miles to find one, parked in a supermarket because your cards don't work, joined the queue. You still have to sit in the phone queue for 30 minutes before the employee who's now working with somebody else can verify who you are. |

Have you had to prove your identity on the phone to a UK bank lately? The one that had me temporarily stumped and had to think about. 1) What's your date of birth? 2) 5 minutes later, how old will you be on your next birthday? Thinking back over the conversation, I'm not sure there was anything that couldn't be found out with some basic level doxing. The one catch was; sign in to the phone app while they watch their end and then confirm which biometric or 2FA was used. |
