#Cocktail - https://thespirits.substack.com/p/the-spirits-192-the-demi-martini in praise of the half size Martini at lunch time. SeeAlso the Fitty-Fitty 25ml each. > Less is more. We’re not bloody Americans. Yes! But, I have noticed my evening opening cocktails growing from 50ml UK main spirit to 60ml (USA). Sober to drunk in 5 minutes is definitely part of the game. And 60-20-20 sours are more spirits forwards. (post-facto justification!)

#Cocktail - Blessed Boulevardier (?) : 50ml Bourbon, 25ml Averna, 25ml Campari, Cherry or Orange slice This should be a "Black Boulevardier", Just swapping the Red Vermouth for Averna. But can we think of an ideologically sound, politically correct, name? It's good though.

Update on the saga. Full planning permission enforcement notice posted. Stop notice from 17-Mar-26. Breach compliance notice from 17-Apr-26. 1) immediate stop on activity. 2) restoration of the land within 2 months with guidance on how to do it. I don't hold out any hope of this actually happening, but it is now a fully legal matter.

On the day the Covid Module 3 report is released. https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/2034615855707775301 Are we *really* doing all this again? Airborne denial, mixed messaging on public health, and on and on. So much of the news in this area (and UK politics generally) feels like an episode of Dad's Army. Deciding who's playing what part is left as an exercise for the reader. "Don't tell them your name, Wes."

The French Club is long gone. As are Olwyn who ran it, my grandmother and the Contessa who funded it. After the war they helped airmen re-unite with the French Resistance families who helped them back to England. Now the next generation are all gone or going as well. I still remember the bar downstairs with it's one armed bandit and the simple French cooking. Chicken liver pate, Lamb with garlicky flageolet vert and saute potatoes, Pot au Chocolat.

So, farewell then, Len Deighton, A connection : My grandmother was involved in Le Petit Club De Francais (The French Club) in St James, opposite Dukes (home of James Bond's Vesper cocktail). In WWII it was a meeting point for French Resistance in London. By the 60s, it had become a late night hangout for film people including Sidney Furie and others who worked on The Ipcress File. A small group of regulars including my Dad and me got invited to the premiere.

I think they missed a trick when they closed the old road to the North of Stonehenge. They could have created a two lane way system round the stones. Westerly on the current A303, Easterly on the old road.

And yet, > The bacteria that cause the illness are typically spread by close and prolonged contact, such as kissing, and sharing drinks or vapes. > Wes Streeting, has urged calm, explaining that the risk of transmission is low > likely the product of a super-spreading event They try so hard not to say it's airborne. Except in this case, inside a club night event. We've been here before.

MenB is the latest disease that is likely to be airborne and spread via the respiratory system. Which means that respirator masks (FFP2/3, N95) and air filters are highly likely to work against it. And while surgical masks help a little bit, they won't help much. Just like all the other airborne diseases. If we learn anything from Covid, it should be that Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) matters and that masks and air filters reduce transmission of many, many infectious diseases.

MenB vax denial : Really? WTAF is the connection between Right Wing, Reform UK Ltd, Maga and science denial? Is it really just that Right Wing Contrarianism is the core part of the grift? "What have you got? Because I can make money and power from being against it."
