And then there's Golf Courses. The old path ran along the edge of the country estate. Except now that's a golf course. And the path is across the driving range. Keep your head down and watch out for low flying golf balls. There's a foot bridge over the dual carriageway, a permissive path at the far end that links to a roman road. But in the middle, golf took the path. The "Permissive Path" signs are now going missing. And part of the path is impenetrable Blackthorn.

So. Respect the countryside. Don't break anything. Leave when asked. Keep a pound in your pocket for "nominal damages" if you're stopped. And then ignore the "Private - No public footpaths" signs and keep walking the old paths. And carry secateurs to keep the path open. If it's marked as a public path or permissive path it's ok to take hedgecutters and loppers once a year to keep it clear if nobody else will. Remember Kinder Scout!

All the land in the UK is owned. Even if 200 years ago the Nobility gifted land to the Mobility as commons for the local gentlefolk, that can be reversed in court now. Add a fence, maintain it for 10 years. Let Natural England and Forestry control it. Challenge the council's proposal to formalise the Commons and the land is lost to the Mobility for ever. Every once in a while, landowners get a chance for the big pay off and pension fund when the local council decides their land is just right for houses. This week I have mostly been ... Getting riled up that England has no right to roam. And the English countryside is disappearing behind fences, security cameras, floodlights, stock fencing and barbed wire. Sheep are a liquid, they'll find every hole in the enclosure. They need strong fences to keep them in which keeps people and large mammals out. They create a barren desert monoculture. And then we lose the old paths.

Launching nuclear weapons is insane. Mutually Assured Destruction only works if each side thinks the other side is insane enough to launch nuclear weapons. No country would be insane enough to launch a first strike. And no country ever has. Except one. So Nuclear Weapons cannot stop expansionism by the great powers - USA, Russia, China, EU. Or by the BRICS. That has to be stopped by economic and conventional warfare alone.
