Newsgroups

The Usenet newsgroups are one of the oldest forms of discussion group on the net. There are now some 40,000 newsgroups, and these include about 30 devoted to M/C. Beware though that some of the groups are both very high volume but also filled with a large amount of noise. Deja.com run a searchable archive of every message ever posted to all the groups. It's a good way to dip into the groups and see if there interesting as well as an amazing research tool.

alt.scooter
Mostly classic scooter enthusiasts, but a growing number of modern "plastic" scooter riders including a vocal minority of Helix and Burgman owners.

Other Mailing Lists

There are large numbers of mailing lists out there as this was the first form of internet discussion. In general the idea is that you post a message to the list and it is forwarded to all the members. They tend to have a higher signal to noise ratio than the newsgroups. Take a look at the following.

MC-Chassis-Design
This is a very high signal to noise list with some talented guys talking about all aspects of building M/C but particularly related to chassis building. Well worth joining for anybody embarking on building an FF.

To subscribe send mail to majordomo@list.sirius.com.
Put the words "subscribe mc-chassis-design e-address" in the body.

MC-Engine
Similar to MC-Chassis, but for the discussion of all aspects of M/C power trains.

To subscribe send mail to majordomo@bikeweb.com.
Put the words "subscribe mc-engine" in the body.

Scooters
The Modern Scooters List. Fairly low volume list of mainly USA based Helix owners.
To subscribe send mail to majordomo@doobie.com. Put the words "subscribe scooters" in the body.

The M/C Mailing List Roundup
Carl Paukstis publishes a definitive list of all the M/C related email mailing lists. Well worth a look.
